It was by actually trying the culinary delights presented in the Velika kuharska zbirka cookbook collection that the management of Dnevnik Newspaper Company and Futura's employees celebrated this successful project. To date, readers of Nedeljski Dnevnik weekly have bought over 100,000 copies, which is well beyond all expectations.
The cookbook collection is the brainchild of Urban Demšar, a renowned Slovene chef, who took on the extensive project with the photographer Janez Pukšič, designer Žare Kerin, and Dnevnik Newspaper Company. The collection contains recipes for tasty dishes made from easily accessible ingredients, which are quick and simple to make – a vital feature, given today's pace of living.
The twelve books contain 408 recipes on 960 pages, and combine traditional and contemporary Slovene and international cuisines. Each recipe is complemented by an outstanding photograph by Slovenia's best food photographer. The magnificent dozen are: Pasta, Potatoes, Meat, Soups, Fish, Vegetables, Salads, Sandwiches, Poultry, Game, BBQ, and Desserts.
